Prestigious honor conferred on World Health Day
On April 7, 2004 (World Health Day), at Palazzo del Quirinale in Rome, Head of State Carlo Azeglio Ciampi delivered the Gold Medal of Merit for Public Health to AIRC Chairman Alfio Noto.
"One of the highest honors of the Italian State, expressing the gratitude of the entire nation".
"In announcing this highly significant award," commented Noto, "AIRC wishes to share it with all of our supporters-nearly two million members-and with the thousands of volunteers who over the past 39 years have led Italian research to world-class excellence and to second best in Europe after Great Britain"

medagliaoro2004Basis for the award:
"AIRC, a private, non-profit entity, has committed its efforts to cancer research and to the dissemination of correct information on the subject. It has raised and granted funds, favoring the studies and scientific enrichment of young researchers in Italy and abroad. It has also equipped many scientific institutions, universities, and hospitals with instruments for research and diagnosis."
We view this medal as an award for all of our associates, supporters and researchers, who devote themselves each day to finding new cures and saving more lives.
