Medal of Merit for Public Health
Prestigious honor conferred on World Health
On April 7, 2004 (World Health Day), at Palazzo del Quirinale in
Rome, Head of State Carlo Azeglio Ciampi delivered
the Gold Medal of Merit for Public Health to AIRC Chairman Alfio
"One of the highest honors of the Italian State, expressing
the gratitude of the entire nation".

million members-and with the thousands of volunteers who over the
past 39 years have led Italian research to world-class excellence

Basis for the award:
"AIRC, a private, non-profit entity, has committed its efforts
to cancer research and to the dissemination of correct information
on the subject. It has raised and granted funds, favoring the
studies and scientific enrichment of young researchers in Italy and
abroad. It has also equipped many scientific institutions,
universities, and hospitals with instruments for research and

AIRC received the seal of approval from the Istituto Italiano della
Donazione (Italian Institute for Donation or IID).
The seal is awarded to non-profit organizations whose conduct
